Mission more fully articulates vision and explains how we intend to fulfill our vision.
Loving well is expressed in three dimensions: Upward. We express our love to God in every aspect of living. Life is spiritual practice, and everything we do we want to do in a way that's pleasing to God. Part of this upward expression of love includes time specifically dedicated to praising and communing with God. Spending time in the divine presence, putting ourselves in the stream of God's grace, transforms us into better, more loving human beings. Outward. We express our love for God's creation by committing our time and resources to forms of activism that serve human beings and our city. We can't just say, "We love the whole world." That love has to be embodied and directed toward specific people to meet specific needs. Educating ourselves about these needs and taking action to improve the quality of life for others is a practical form of loving that has a transformative effect on us. Inward. We express our love for one another within the community by bringing our lives close together, getting to know one another beneath the surface, and taking action to meet each other's needs. By choosing to share life with a specific group of people, our love becomes specific, and we become transformed into more authentic people who are able to live deeply and love deeply. |
